The Lake Dillon Theatre Company offers several programs for aspiring young artists (ages 7-13) held throughout the year including intensive workshops during the summer season. In 2013 the summer season included two original shows The Glee Project and Disney's Heroes and Villains in addition to Schoolhouse Rock Live! And Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr.
The workshops are designed to provide participants a whirlwind musical experience. While rehearsing and producing a full scale show, the students also participate in an intensive course schedule complete with lessons in Stage Combat, Movement, Voice, Improvisation, Character Building, Scene Study, and Creative Writing to name a few! Not only do the students have an opportunity to expand in all areas of performing arts, but we focus on supporting creative expression in several other ways as well. Last summer the students of Disney's Heroes and Villains wrote six short scripts based on their favorite Disney tales and characters and assisted the staff in creating the set and directing the short plays. The participants of The Glee Project helped re-interpret popular music and performed an original acoustic version of Jailhouse Rock. The students of School House Rock not only helped re-imagine the story, but also contributed to the choreography by adding elements of gymnastics, breakdancing, and skateboarding.
The Lake Dillon Youth Theatre Workshops are a safe and encouraging environment for any child with an interest in performing arts. We not only take pride in developing creative passions but we allow the children to work together, to think outside of the box, and most importantly to have fun!
